The interaction between translational activity and translational accuracy. Deletion of the TEF1 gene, one of two identical genes encoding elongation factor 1A in yeast, reduces lysine misincorporation on an AGG codon. By contrast, deletion of either of the two identical genes encoding elongation factor 2 increase the same error. Application of low concentrations of cycloheximide, which also blocks the translocation step of translation elongation, has a similar effect as eEF2 depletion.
