Participants are tested when viewing objects under controlled illumination with the implant on or off. In this case, Rhian Lewis, the first patient to receive the next generation Alpha-AMS chip, is reading the clock face. The wire connecting the power supply to the magnetic receiver behind the ear can be seen. The patient gave permission for her story to be included in a BBC television science documentary.
