The whole genome sequencing can be used to precisely genotype a cultivar of button mushrooms and thus identify its genetic relationship to an original cultivar. The amount of retained heterozygosity and number of CO at chromosome ends can be used to see if a cultivar has been derived directly (primary EDV) or indirectly (secondary EDV) from the original variety. New alleles indicate that outbreeding has been used to generate a new cultivar based on the original variety and the number of CO relative to the original cultivar is an indication for the number of generations used (breeding effort)
