Demographics and lipid levels of 50 subjects with chronic renal insufficiency on hemodialysis and 44 ethnically-match controls. Data are mean ± SD, unless otherwise indicated. Blood samples were obtained either from hemodialysis patients immediately prior to dialysis or from healthy subjects after a minimum of 8 hr of fasting. Ethnicity, age, and gender were self-reported. Plasma lipids and lipoproteins and RBC indices were measured by Quest Diagnostics as described in the Materials and methods.
