Figure 4

Neurogenesis is inhibited through E15.5. (ad) The neural progenitor pool was massively expanded throughout the rostro-caudal neuraxis in Gsk3a−/−; Gsk3bloxP/loxP; nestin-cre mice. Serial brain sections in the rostro-caudal direction were prepared from E15.5 mice and were immunostained for Sox2 (green) and Tuj1 (red). Scale bar represents 400 μm. Rostral brain sections are shown in a and b, and caudal brain sections are shown in c and d. (e,f) Higher magnification showed that Sox2-positive progenitor pools in GSK-3 mutant cortex were even more expanded at E15.5 than at earlier ages. Generation of Tuj1-positive neurons was severely inhibited through this stage. Scale bar represents 100 μm. Left, control brain sections. Right, Gsk3a−/−; Gsk3bloxP/loxP; nestin-cre sections.
