Each bar represents the mean ± SEM of data obtained from 6–8 mice. The numbers of motoneurons was counted after application of either fluorogold or rubyred to the sciatic nerve mid‐thigh. Note that the number of motoneurons in the Smn +/− transgenic mice began to decline significantly by 7 months.
