Difference of estimated influence of task demands on research time by gender. Participants provided survey responses in which they weighted ten items reflecting influences on the amount of time they spent conducting research, summing to 100%. MANOVA computations indicated that males and females differed only in the reported influence of changes in workload based on project demands, with females reporting significantly greater influence (mean difference = 6.36, p = 0.003, Cohen’s d = 0.27).
