(A–E) Column-integrated volcanic aerosol mass used to force seasonally variable Tambora simulations, for varying latitudinal bands: 50–90°N (A), 20–50°N (B), 20S–20°N (C), 20–50°S (D), and 50–90°S (E). Here all time series have been adjusted to begin at the starting month of each eruption: Thus 1 y since eruption indicates April of the following year for April eruptions, October for October eruptions, etc. Northern Hemisphere high latitudes receive increased aerosol loadings earlier (3–6 mo posteruption) for January–April eruptions, whereas July–October show the first increase in the Southern Hemisphere.
