Contribution of PilY1 domains to twitching and sliding motility. For (A) twitching and (B) sliding motility assays stationary phase liquid cultures of L. pneumophila Corby wild type (WT), the pilY1-negative mutant (ΔpilY1), the complemented pilY1 mutant strains expressing the wild type PilY1 (ΔpilY1 WTPilY1), the PilY1 lacking the C-terminal PilY1 domain (ΔPilYdom) and the PilY1 lacking vWFa domain (ΔvWFa) were spotted on BCYE agar plates and grown at 30°C for 14 days. (C) Images of twitching motility and sliding translocation are representatives of three independent experiments.
