A single miRNA species negatively controls the expression of the ceRNA species ceRNAT (‘target’, level mT) and ceRNAC (‘competitor’, level mC), to which it can bind with rates Inline graphic and Inline graphic, respectively. The functional products of the ceRNAs, proteins pT and pC, can eventually interact to form a complex CP. The key control parameter is the target’s transcription rate bT.
