Consequences of Mapping Principle on Learning. An overarching trend is that poor phonological skills lead to a greater risk of reading problems in writing systems that use a small grain size for O-P mapping, whereas poor visual/memory skills lead to a greater risk of reading problems in writing systems that use a large grain size for O-P mapping.
