Receptor-ligand interaction releases the NOTCH intracellular domain (NICD), which translocates to the nucleus, where it forms a complex with the RBPJ protein. This leads to the transcriptional activation of Notch target genes (Hey/Hes). Hey/Hes proteins are transcriptional repressors.
