Analyses excluded those with outcomes at baseline or during the first 3 years of follow−up. SBP analyses exclude 218,466 participants with a missing measurement. Hazard ratios were all adjusted or stratified by age (continuous), sex, current smoking and level of deprivation (by fifths) and are plotted against the mean BMI in each BMI category. Boxes are plotted so that the area is proportional to the inverse variance of the floated hazard ratio. Error bars indicate 95% CIs and are accompanied by the hazard ratio (upper number) and number of outcomes (lower number).
