The INK4b/ARF/INK4a locus. The INK4b/ARF/INK4a locus encodes three proteins, including p15INK4b, p14ARF, and p16INK4a. The coding regions of p14ARF and p16ink4a start in different exons—exon 1, 1β, and 1α, respectively. Exon 2 of the INK4b/ARF/INK4a locus is shared by p14ARF and p16ink4a. They comprise completely different amino acids, despite sharing the exons 2 and 3, through an alternative reading frame.
