Surgical procedure. (A) At a site ~8 mm from the lower edge of the piriformis, the sciatic nerve was resected to remove a ~6 mm segment and allowed to naturally retract, resulting in a ~10 mm section of nerve defect. (B) A silicone tube 15 mm in length was sutured to the proximal and distal ends of the resected sciatic nerve.
