Effects of combination therapy with catechins and caffeine on protein expression levels relative to lipolysis in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Differentiated 3T3-L1 cells were treated with various concentrations of catechins and caffeine in combination, and harvested at day 13. Cell proteins were extracted and subjected to western blotting and densitometry analysis to determine (A) HSL and (B) ATGL protein expression levels. Data are presented as the mean ± standard error (n=4) and protein levels were normalized to the expression of β-actin. Letters with different superscripts indicate samples that are significantly different (*P<0.05) with the control. HSL, hormone sensitive lipase; ATGL, adipose triglyceride lipase; NA, noradrenaline; I, 40 µg/ml catechins; II, 160 µg/ml caffeine; III, control; IV, 80 µg/ml caffeine + 10 µg/ml catechins; V, 160 µg/ml caffeine + 10 µg/ml catechins; VI, 80 µg/ml caffeine + 20 µg/ml catechins; VII, 160 µg/ml caffeine + 20 µg/ml catechins; VIII, 80 µg/ml caffeine + 40 µg/ml catechins; IX, 160 µg/ml caffeine + 40 µg/ml catechins.
