Clot formation in the extrinsically activated ROTEM assay (EXTEM). The clots formed from whole blood (I) and platelet-rich plasma (II) are shown. In both cases, clot is formed above as well as below the shoulder of the plunger. In addition, a proportion of the blood/plasma remains as liquid (residual fluid in the cup).
