(a) Introducing the AiiA cells in the plate-assay setup. (b) Activation time versus distance from the sender plot for variable levels of interference. The number of interference cells in the assay is normalized to the number of cells in 100 μL of cells in a culture with an absorbance of 1.0 at 600 nm. Curves show an exponential fit to demonstrate qualitative trends in the data. Experiments were run for 16 h, much longer than the time needed to observe the maximum radius of activation.
