miR-34a was highly expressed in cataractous lens. The expression of miR-34a was upregulated in fresh specimens of anterior lens capsules of age-related cataracts using stem loop reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction, compared with transparent lenses (NC), which indicated that miR-34a expression was greater than 90-fold in cataracts compared with the transparent lens.
