Steps difference after the time of friendship request for delayed accepted and directly accepted friendship requests. Delayed accepted requests lead to significant increases in activity (148 additional daily steps), even before they get accepted. However, intrinsic motivation M only explains 45% of the observed effect for directly accepted requests. We attribute the remaining 55% or 180 daily steps to social influence I. Error bars in this and all following plots represent bootstrapped 95% confidence intervals.
