Sensorineural hearing is normal, with a minor conductive loss due to a carcinoma of the external auditory canal. The IHCs are not well aligned. Several sIHCs are located at the modiolar side (arrows). Microvilli-rich border cells surround the sIHCs (inset). The surface of the inner sulcus is smooth. Some IHC stereocilia are not arranged in straight lines parallel to the long axis of the cochlear duct (encircled).
