Adult and aging mice were treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS, 0.5 mg/kg, iv) or normal saline. The levels of Klotho and HSP70 in myocardial tissue were analyzed with immunoblotting at 24 and 96 h after treatment. Representative immunoblots and densitometric data show that endotoxemia causes a reduction in myocardial Klotho and HSP70 levels at 24 h in adult mice, and myocardial levels Klotho and HSP70 are recovered to the baseline at 96 h. In aging mice, Klotho and HSP70 levels are also reduced at 24 h, but remain low at 96 h following LPS treatment. Data are expressed as mean ± SE. n=5, *P<0.05 vs. control, #P<0.05 vs. adult.
