Germ cell development in the mouse testis. In the male embryo, the primordial germ cells (PCGs) give rise to quiescent gonocytes. At birth, the gonocytes give rise to spermatogonia stem cells (SSCs) that proliferate, enter meiosis, and differentiate into spermatids.
