The animals were infected with a lethal dose of L. interrogans serovar Kennewicki strain Pomona Fromm (LPF). After 0, 3, 6, 8, 9, or 10 days post-infection, the animals were euthanized and the lungs, kidneys, and livers were removed and prepared for histopathology by H-E staining. Organs from non-infected (ni) hamsters were used as controls.
