(A) Total α-1,6-fucosylprotein levels in STG of comparison subjects (COMP) and patients with schizophrenia (SCZ) and in cortex of rats chronically treated with haloperidol (HALO) or vehicle (CTRL). Total α-1,6-fucosylprotein expression is reduced in SCZ relative to COMP subjects, but not different between HALO and CTRL rats. (B) α-1,6-fucosylprotein expression in specific molecular mass ranges with corresponding bands indicated by boxes on a western blot probed with biotinylated Aleuria aurantia lectin (AAL) and IR-dye labeled streptavidin and the same western blot probed for VCP (valosin containing protein). Glycoproteins in the ~52–58kDa and ~60–70kDa molecular mass ranges demonstrate reduced α-1,6-fucosylation in SCZ relative to COMP subjects.
