Lutein (L), violaxanthin (V), antheraxanthin (A), zeaxanthin (Z) and xanthophyll cycle pool (VAZ) were expressed as mmol mol1 Chl; the de-epoxidation state of VAZ-pool (DEPS, %); chlorophyll a+ b (Chla+ b) and carotene (Car) were expressed as mg g1 FW. Well-watered (WW), moderate drought (MD), and severe drought (SD). Means and SE of four replicates are shown. Different letters within the same stage indicate significant differences (P < 0.05) according to Duncan’s test.
