Basal relaxation. Basal relaxation is observed as a stage preceding apical constriction in some contexts. Active disassembly of F-actin at the basal end of the cells facilitates wedging of these cells as well as later apical accumulation of actomyosin cables, which subsequently deform the epithelium.
