Cryosections of rat p4 ED and ES were co-localized with the indicated claudin subtype antibody and ZO-1 antibody. (a–a”’) Very low cytoplasmic Claudin 4 expression in the epithelial cells of ED. No co-localization with ZO-1 could be observed. (b–b”’) Cytoplasmic Claudin 4 expression was found in the ES epithelium. In a few cells Claudin 4 co-localized with ZO-1. (c–c”’) The epithelium of the ED lacked Claudin 16 labeling. (d–d”) The epithelial cells of the ES exhibited a cytoplasmic Claudin 16 immunolabeling with a minor fraction co-localized with ZO-1.
