Figure 4A is based upon ratings of semiquantitative analysis of the extent of GFAP astrocyte immunoreactivity in Figure 4B. A significant decrease of hippocampal reactive astrocytosis, as reflected by lower GFAP immunoreactivity, in mice treated with MEL after splenectomy on day 14 is seen (p=0.033 by Mann-Whitney test) (scale bar =100 µm).
