The B. subtilis basal body consists of the C ring, MS ring and the rod and acts as a rotary motor. Bacillus subtilis flagellar motor has two distinct, MotAB and MotPS stators, which act as the H+ and Na+ channels, respectively. A dozen stators surround the rotor ring complex made of the MS ring formed by a transmembrane protein FliF and the C ring consisting of FliG, FliM and FliY44.
