Figure 3. Dose-dependent growth inhibition of biofilms treated with histone mixture (MBEC assay).

(A) MSSA (B) and MRSA strains were treated with increasing concentrations of histone mixture in sterile H2O, pH 7.4: 8 μg/ml, 16 μg/ml, 32 μg/ml, 64 μg/ml, and kanamycin 2 mg/ml as a positive control for inhibition. The untreated control cells were incubated with sterile H2O, pH 7.4 as a negative control for inhibition. Results for dose-dependent growth inhibition (C) are of three independent trials, each in triplicate. Statistical analysis was done by Student’s T-Test, (*) indicates P ≤ 0.002 compared with the untreated control cells for MSSA bacterial growth; (+) indicates P ≤ 0.0001 compared with the untreated control cells for MRSA bacterial growth.
