Previous work using NCSs demonstrated biocatalytic formation of 1-monosubstituted-THIQs from dopamine and aldehydes. In this work we demonstrate the biocatalytic route to 1,1′-disubstituted THIQs, from dopamine and ketones, via a Pictet–Spengler reaction, catalysed by NCS. The amines and substituted alpha-carbons is highlighted in blue.
