At least 8 days after the initial deafening surgery, the cochleae were preconditioned by i.v. furosemide injection and flushing of scala media with stem cell culture media. Additionally, endolymph was flushed with or without sodium caprate dissolved in stem cell culture media. After the preconditioning procedure, hESCs (GFP fluorescence labelled) were implanted in the scala media through the cochleostomy.
