Induction of hyphal growth in wild-type and mutant strains. Hypha formation on solid media was determined by plating the indicated strains on either (A) complete synthetic medium (CSM) containing 10% serum or (B) on Spider medium. All plates were incubated for 4 days at 37°C prior to photography. Note the abundant filamentation at the colony edges of both the wild type (SC5314) and heterozygous DYN1/dyn1 on both media; this filamentation is completely absent in the homozygous dyn1dyn1 mutant. Images representing magnifications of the colony edges were acquired via digital microscopy of the corresponding colonies.
