Proposed synthesis of endomorphin-1 by the vitamin C-dependent enzyme peptidylglycine α-amidating monooxygenase (PAM). The enzyme comprises a peptidylglycine α-hydroxylating monooxygenase (PHM) domain, which converts glycine-extended peptides into a hydroxyglycine intermediate, and a peptidyl α-hydroxyglycine α-amidating lyase (PAL) domain, which converts the hydroxyglycine intermediate into an amidated product.
