Supplementary Figure 12 shows an example of the separation of substrate and product by gel electrophoresis at various times in the presence of Mg2+ ions.
B. A plot of the logarithm of the cleavage rate (taken from Supplementary Table 3) as a function of the pKa values for the divalent metal ions present in the reaction 57. These data have been fitted to a straight line (gradient = -1.26, R = 0.965). Three (Mn2+and Ca2+) or four (Mg2+ and Sr2+) independent measurements were made, and the error bars show twice the standard deviation.
