Claudin-5 expression in the normal rat BBB. The polyclonal rabbit antiserum to the C-terminal sequence was obtained from Zymed Laboratories Inc. (South San Francisco, CA), and used at a dilution of 1:50 or 1:25. In the BBB, Claudin-5 is not expressed at the luminal nor abluminal endothelial membranes, but it is solely expressed intermittently along the entire interendothelial cleft. A similar expression pattern was seen in human seizure resections (not shown).
