(A) S. gordonii V288 and GP1485 growth curves. Strains were inoculated from frozen stocks in tubes containing 10 ml of TSB, and growth was monitored spectrophotometrically for 24 h. Parallel tubes were incubated statically and photographed after 24 h of incubation. (B) Long chain phenotype of S. gordonii lytB mutant GP1485. Early stationary phase S. gordonii cultures (OD₅₉₀ 1.1) were spotted onto a glass slide, heat-fixed and stained with crystal violet. Samples were observed with a light microscope at 100× magnification. Pictures are representative of the whole bacterial population. Data from one representative experiment (of three independent experiments) are shown.
