(A) Co-culture assay. S. gordonii wild type strain V288 (white bar) and lytB mutant GP1485 (black bar) were grown separately or in co-culture (light grey bar) and spotted directly on a glass slide for chain enumeration. An equal culture volume of V288 and GP1485 was mixed and spotted on a glass slide as control (dark grey bar). Data were expressed as the mean ± SEM of the number of cells forming a chain (mean chain length) considering at least three microscopy fields. The asterisks indicate *P < 0.05 and ***P < 0.001.
