Figure 1

Phylogeny of 135 MTBC clinical strains color-coded by the pe_pgrs33 alleles. One hundred thirty-five MTBC clinical strains isolated in Rome were genotyped by 15 loci MIRU-VNTR (Gutierrez et al., 2005) combined with spoligotyping (Kamerbeek et al., 1997). An UPGMA tree rooted by two previously characterized strains of M. canetti was obtained from MIRU-VNTRplus database (Gutierrez et al., 2005; Allix-Béguec et al., 2008) and a different color-coded by the pe_pgrs33 alleles was assigned. Gray dot, unknown strains; “?,” strains likely belonging to the T-specific lineage of the Euro-American superlineage (Allix-Béguec et al., 2008).
