Figure 1

Selective progesterone receptor modulator (SPRM), ulipristal acetate (UPA) modifies endometrial morphology. Haematoxylin and eosin staining of full thickness endometrium from hysterectomy specimens of nine subjects with uterine fibroids exposed to UPA for up to 12 weeks. All specimens exhibited progesterone receptor modulator associated endometrial changes (PAEC) but with variation in the degree of cystic glandular dilatation, and in overall endometrial thickness. Subjects A–C showed widespread extensive cystic dilatation that was less frequently observed in subjects D–H. Subject I had minimal cystic change. No subjects exhibited histological evidence of inflammation, hyperplasia or neoplasia. ×4 magnification (scale bar = 500 µm); LE, Luminal epithelium; G, Glands; S, Stroma.
