Tissue fragments contain a pituitary adenoma and compressed normal adenohypophysis (A, haematoxylin–eosin– ×10); neoplastic cells are uniform, show a peripheral rim of basophilic cytoplasm and perinuclear hyalinisation (B, haematoxylin–eosin – ×40); the adenoma shows ubiquitous expression of ACTH (C, ACTH immunoperoxidase – ×10); perinuclear hyaline changes consist of cytokeratin filaments (D, CAM5.2 immunoperoxidase – ×40).
