Two different types of D1–D2 receptor heteromers. The careful inspection of the material revealed the presence of D1–D2 receptors of different sizes, as observed within all striatal subdivisions and across all experimental groups. Unexpectedly, neighboring neurons often showed PLA signals of two different sizes, likely reflecting the presence of both individual D1–D2 receptor heteromers and macromolecular structures made of a number of individual receptor heteromers, grouped together.
