Effect of LPS on the level of expression of total cellular sodium-dependent multivitamin transporter (SMVT) protein and mRNA in human colonic epithelial NCM460 cells (A) and mouse native colonic tissue (B). NCM460 cells were pretreated with LPS (50 μg/ml; 72 h) followed by determination of the level of expression of hSMVT protein (A, i) and mRNA (A, ii). Total cellular mSMVT protein (B, i) and mRNA level (B, ii) were determined in colonic tissue of LPS-treated mice (5 mg/kg body wt ip; 72 h). In both Western blot analyses, identical amounts of protein (60 μg) were loaded onto gels. Data were normalized relative to β-actin for mRNA and protein (see Methods).
