The number of microvascular decompression (MVD) procedures for the treatment of hemifacial spasm during a 33-month period from July 2010 to March 2013 in each age group. There were 2907 cases, including 916 male cases and 1991 female cases. The number of female cases was 2.2 times higher than the number of male cases. MVD was most frequently performed in men in their 40s-50s but in women in their 60s.
