Examples of the Genomic Landscape of ERα-Binding Regions
Images are based on the UCSC browser. The top panel shows a larger region of chromosome 1, spanning 10 Refseq genes and several ERα-binding regions. Note that ERα-binding regions are both inter- and intragenic. Sections I, II and III (highlighted in yellow) are shown in greater detail in the lower panels. Panel I, Intronic ER region relatively close to the TSS of the Map4k4 gene. Note the high conservation of the region between mouse, rat, human, and dog, but not chicken. The black track represents the overall conservation score across all species compared. The gray tracks are pairwise alignments of rat, human, dog, and chicken, each aligned to the mouse genome. Panel II, Cluster of intergenic ER regions between the Il1r2 and Il1r1 genes. These regions are less conserved than the example in panel I. Panel III, Two ERα-binding regions near the Il1r1 gene TSS. One ERα-binding region overlaps the core promoter, whereas one, less conserved region, is located within the first intron.
