This figure shows the interplay between myocardial ischemia, coronary flow reserve, epicardial coronary stenosis, and atherosclerotic burden extension. As shown in the figure, patient A and B have in common nonobstructive coronary artery disease. However, patient B in presence of myocardial ischemia, impairment of coronary flow reserve and extensive atherosclerotic burden is at higher risk than patient A. Adapted from reference (38).
