STE alleviates the clinical symptoms of and enhances the survival of EV71 infected mice. (a) Seven-day-old ICR mice were intraperitoneally infected with 2 × 10⁶ PFU MP4. One day later, EV71-infected mice were treated with single dose of STE (250 mg/kg) (n = 16) or water (10 ml/kg) (n = 15) daily for 14 days. The survival rate (a), and clinical symptoms in STE-treated (b) or water-treated (c) mice were recorded daily for 17 days. The clinical symptoms, including weakness, weight loss, paralysis of one limb, paralysis of more than one limb, and death, were recorded daily.
