Depiction of ribosome assembly and protein translation processes that were enriched in the high feed efficiency (FE) pedigree male broiler phenotype. Components shown in pink or red were enriched in the high FE phenotype (see Table 4). RNA polymerases initiate transcription in the nucleoplasm or in the nucleolus. Small nuclear (sn) ribonucleoproteins (SNP) and heterogeneous (hn) SNP play roles in nucleolar ribosomal RNA (rRNA) synthesis as well as in messenger RNA (mRNA) synthesis in conjunction with spliceosome activity responsible for cleaving on introns from the pre mRNA molecule. Pre-ribosomes as well as tRNAs and mRNAs are exported out of the nucleus into the cytoplasm. In the cytoplasm, ribosomes assemble into the 40S and 60S subunits where protein translation takes place in conjunction with delivery of amino acids by tRNA (See text for details).
