Comparisons between time points (i.e., St0 vs. St25 and HCSt0 vs. HCSt25) were performed by the Student's t-test for paired samples or by the Wilcoxon test for paired samples; comparisons between treatments at the same time point were performed by the Student's t-test for unpaired samples or by the Wilcoxon rank-sum test for unpaired samples (i.e., St0 vs. HCSt0 and St25 vs. HCSt25).

St0 = median (25th, 75th percentiles, IQR) of each variable's distribution in scars at t0.

St25 = median (25th, 75th percentiles, IQR) of each variable's distribution in scars at t25.

HCSt0 = median (25th, 75th percentiles, IQR) of each variable's distribution in healthy contralateral skin sites at t0.

HCSt25 = median (25th, 75th percentiles, IQR) of each variable's distribution in healthy contralateral skin sites at t25.

St0 versus St25 = p value deriving from the comparison of each variable's distribution between t0 and t25 measurements in scars.

HCSt0 versus HCSt25 = p value deriving from the comparison of each variable's distribution between t0 and t25 measurements in healthy contralateral skin sites.

St0 versus HCSt0 = p value deriving from the comparison of each variable's distribution between measurements in scars and healthy contralateral skin sites at t0.

St25 versus HCSt25 = p value deriving from the comparison of each variable's distribution between measurements in scars and healthy contralateral skin sites at t25.

Variable = analyzed variable.

HCS, healthy contralateral skin sites; IQR, interquartile range; S, scars; TEWL, transepidermal water loss.
